    Ocean Health Initiatives offers a full range of outpatient nutrition services designed to help you achieve optimal health and feel your best.

    What is a Dietitian?

    A Dietitian is a food and nutrition expert who can translate the latest scientific breakthroughs into practical food choices.

    Individualized Nutrition Counseling

    Nutrition counseling is available for, but not limited to, the following areas:

    Dietitian and You

    By improving your eating habits, you are taking steps towards a healthier you. During your appointment with the Dietitian you will receive individual counseling and specific guidance with personalized goals. Your registered dietitian will:

    • Review your diet history and help you set goals that fit your lifestyle
    • Analyze your usual food intake and suggest changes to improve your eating habits
    • Provide personalized diet instructions based on mutually determined goals
    • Work with your OHI provider and inform them of your nutrition care plan

    Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP)

    Attending all of the HDSP programs, participants will receive a fit bit, two cookbooks, and a daily food journal.

    Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
    Giavonna Hirtes

    Education and Industry Experience: I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree and completed my supervised Dietetic Internship at Montclair State University. I became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist through the Commission of Dietetics Registration in 2014 and have been working in the field ever since. I have experience and different areas of dietetics such as retail, community, clinical in-patient and outpatient nutrition.

    How long have you been with OHI: Since February 2022

    What does your day to day look like within your role: Patient education through medical nutrition therapy in one-on-one consultations to set personalized goals or education in group settings to share ideas and collaborate with others.

    Favorite part of working at OHI: Helping patients realize their own skills and potential to nourish their bodies in ways that work for them and re-build a healthy relationship with food.

    Certifications: Certificate of Training in Obesity Interventions for Adults through the Commission of Dietetics Registration.
